For me, Christmas has now begun.

I was in Ito-Yokado, with my mother-in-law, shopping for pants and socks for my wife (don't ask...) when they started playing "Merry Christmas Everybody" by Slade - weird, because it's an unknown song in Japan, they then moved onto "Last Christmas" by Wham, also unknown, which makes me suspect they bought licensed their Christmas music from a foreign company.

Anyway, much as they say "the show isn't over 'til the fat lady sings", for British people Christmas hasn't begun 'til Noddy Holder has shouted "It's Chriiiiistmaaaas!!"

Perhaps not a very interesting anecdote, but there you go.

More interesting would be why you're shopping for pants and socks with your mother-in-law, for your wife. Unless it's meant to be a surprise gift.

Wife had decided that as her mother was here, she could happily just lie down and relax for the day - I had to go with her mother to show her where all the shops were.
Her mum had to do a bunch of cleaning when she got here too (I had been trying to get the place looking good last week, but Syan's stance was "oh no, mum will clean up when she gets here, she loves cleaning")
Apparently when her mother comes here again next month, she's going to be treated as a valuable guest and not have to do any housework, but I shall believe it when I see it.

Hey, if you have a mother-in-law who is friendly and likes to help, then you have hit the jackpot. Enjoy it.

^^^^This, except when you're too embarrassed to have your MIL clean for you, so you clean in preparation for her visit, only to have her say that the place doesn't look clean, cleans anyway and makes you help!... T_T
